❤️Nostalgia Ain’t What It Used To Be: Midnight in Paris ❤️
❤️🎶☕️ Love Beats and Brew - Episode 3 Recap! ❤️🎶☕️
Ever felt like your soul belonged to another time? Maybe the 1970’s Harlem Jazz scene, the Paris salons of the 1920’s, or the poetry cafes of the 1950’s. In this episode of Love Beats and Brew, we journey down the cobble stone streets of Paris…at midnight… with one of our favorite films by Woody Allen Midnight in Paris as our inspiration.
In this movie, Owen Wilson plays Gil, a Hollywood screenwriter chasing literary greatness in Paris. Each night at midnight, he is transported back into the 1920’s where he mingles and chases conversations with legends of the time like Hemingway and Picasso and seems to be chasing what he deems as the “golden age”. Gil is convinced that this time and era is far more beautiful than his own but as he falls through the ambiance of different times and even lovers, he learns that maybe the real magic is learning to love the life you’re standing in right now.
Whether you’ve watched the film or not, this episode is for the dreamers, the creators, and the romantics at heart who’ve ever wondered like us, “Was I born in the wrong era?”
🎙️ Highlights from this Episode 🎙️
☕️🎶🎥 Paris, Jazz & Midnight Dreams 🎥🎶☕️
Before we dove deep into nostalgia, creativity and the lore of the past, we kept it true to our style: good music, laughter and little moments that reminded us why we love these conversations so much.
We opened up by setting the mood…and asked the question that we often ask ourselves, “You ever sit back and wonder if your soul was made for another time?”
✨ What’s your golden age?
✨ Are we running backward because the present starts to feel to ordinary?
✨ Is here a part of you that you are still time-traveling away from?
It got deep and we wondered, are we still talking about the movie’s midnight walks ….or are we talking about our own? Both of us had some time to reflect and build upon our answers which led us into a segment about the “time loop” (Kell got stuck on this) when asked if she though we chase moments that we think would '“fix” us.
✨ Ibrahim closed out the final segment with a great quote, “The people who shape culture aren’t always the ones chasing the past. They’re the ones present enough to create it!” 🎙️drop!
🌀 Nostalgia is a drug 🌀
✨I bear the question…what is it about nostalgia that makes it so seductive? Why do we often romantasize the past and how do we return to the present?
🎨 The Art of Running 🎨
✨ I suppose we all time travel in our own way whether it’s scrolling Instagram for vintage finds, getting lost in Pintrest searching for ways to create the perfect space or using polaroid filters that make today look like yesterday. Sometimes it’s easier to run backward than face forward.
🎭 Art & the Inner Conflict 🎭
✨Beyond romance and timeless Paris aesthetics, Midnight in Paris is about an artist’s ache. The desperate need to become a “real” writer. So we asked ourselves….
✨ What does it mean to be a “real” writer or a real artist?
❤️ Sometimes your best art shows up once you stop trying to impress the ghosts! ❤️
💕 Why The Present Might Be Golden Too 💕
✨ We spend so much of our lives chasing another time, a sweeter yesterday, a someday that seems just out of our reach. It’s almost as if longing for something else is human nature. What if what we are searching for, is right here in front of us. What is what we have right now, is what someone else is praying for at this very moment?
✨ Think about this…what if the coffee you wake up to drink on those slow mornings, or the sunset you pulled over to watch fall behind the mountains, or the art you were brave enough to create today…turned out to be your masterpiece era? What if years from now, you look back on your life and think about these very moments and think to yourself, “Wow, I didn’t even realise I was in my golden era!” - Don’t let that be you! Enjoy every moment now ✨
✨ Something to consider: The people who shape culture, who build legacies, who live fully, aren’t usually the ones who are lost in yesterday. They’re the ones who dare to love deeply and show up imperfectly present. The ones who see magic in the ordinary and who choose to stand still long enough to notice the beauty around them. ✨
❤️ So ask yourself: ❤️
✨ What beauty might I be missing by always looking back or being to focussed on what’s ahead?
✨ What love, art and joy could I create if I believed this moment was already enough?
💌 Kell’s final Thought 💌
Legacy isn’t about recreating yesterday. It’s about being fully alive today, loving deeply, creating boldly, and letting your soul be right where it is.
